The Caravella Football Academy High Performance Program is the first fully integrated football program in Far North Queensland. Combining high-level and cutting edge football education with the latest methods in strength and conditioning, this program is for the most dedicated of footballers that want to develop themselves towards an elite level. The HPP program is now in its third year of operation, perfectly complimenting club and representative commitments.
HPP Development 1-2
For advanced players aged 8-16
1 x football session, 1 x strength and conditioning session (1 day per week) – both at The Grounds Cairns
The HPP program is personally delivered by the two leading specialists in Far North Queensland.
Our football program is run by Zenon Caravella – former A-League veteran with over 300 professional games to his name. In 2016 Zenon was awarded with an “Outstanding contribution to the A- League” award by then Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou and FFA CEO David Gallop. Aside from his priceless playing experience at the highest level, Zenon currently carries his AFC B licence making him one of the most formally educated coaches in the region. Zenon is also the Football Queensland Head of SAP + TSP in Far North
Queensland, the only state professional program delivered by the governing body.
Our strength and conditioning program is run by leading high performance coach, Crios O’Hare from Next Level HPT. Crios is not only qualified in S + T training but has played football at a high level in Australia and
overseas meaning he is able to design a program for our players specific to football. Crios is also the Premiership winning Premier Mens Coach for Edge Hill United in 2019.
There is no more qualified duo in the region able to guide junior FNQ footballers to the next level.
“Bridging the gap”
With all HPP football sessions high-quality and requiring full attention, players are required to adjust to an intense environment not unlike elite programs offered in the metropolitan areas all over the country. Sessions are all pre-planned and carefully designed by Zenon Caravella, incorporating all facets of football education from technical work to decision making in game situations.
Through HPP training our players are able to take what they’ve learnt from the program into any team they are selected for, whether it be Club, Representative, Peninsula, State or if they have aspirations to move interstate or overseas for football. The HPP program aspires to create individually sound footballers, ready to slot into any elite environment outside of Cairns.
HPP football coach Zenon Caravella has combined his playing experience and formal education to plan sessions that not only challenge players both mentally and physically but he creates an environment that brings out the best out of every player. Added to this, being only recently retired from the highest level, he is physically able to technically demonstrate while delivering each exercise at a high intensity, further challenging players to give more.
The sessions take place at The Grounds Cairns, the region’s first and only FIFA rated, world class, purpose built football facility. This ensures our players will train on high quality grass with a smooth surface all year round, ideal for technical training.
Each football session is a minimum of 60 minutes and finishes off with a game to implement what’s been learned. Sessions may go overtime.
The aim of the strength and conditioning program is to develop our athletes in all areas with an emphasis on building good foundations as they grow. There is a big focus on co- ordination, balance, proprioception and core strength, while also instilling good habits in regards to self care (flexibility, recovery etc).
HPP S+C coach Crios O’Hare has designed the program specific to the needs of a growing junior footballer, ensuring he is in constant liaison with football coach Zenon Caravella to meet any specific needs of a player.
Strength and conditioning aims to create the athlete first, and the player second.
The strength and conditioning sessions will take place at Next Level Training Academy at The Grounds. Players train in small groups and the sessions go for 40 minutes.
October 3-6: FNQ Youth Cup in Cairns
FNQ YOUTH CUP + ADVANCED CAMP
The FNQ Youth Cup is the biggest junior tournament in Cairns, with NPL clubs and academies coming from all over Australia. This year we welcomed 400 elite footballers from Sydney, Brisbane, Townsville and Mackay with the 2020 edition destined to be bigger and better with it taking place for the first time at The Grounds Cairns.
As the host academy, Caravella Football Academy have the exclusive rights to the region of FNQ and we will be entering a minimum of one team per age group.
In 2018 we had Western Sydney Wanderers Youth Coach Arthur Diles at the event to cast his eye over our players and in 2019 we had former Socceroo great Luke Wilkshire and former Leeds legend Michael Bridges.
The day prior to the cup an advanced camp is held for all participating players in a multi- station format, giving our players the opportunity to train with likeminded players from all over the country. In 2019 we had guest coaches Luke Wilkshire and Michael Bridges alongside our own coaches run the camp.
