High performance program announced for 2018

On the back of a successful campaign in Japan from our talented Far North footballers and staff, Caravella Football Academy are excited to announce a new 40-week program in 2018 which will combine all facets of elite football development; cutting edge football education, strength and conditioning and nutrition.

In partnership with Crios O’Hare from Next Level High Performance training, this program will incorporate two sessions of football and one session of small-group strength and conditioning training which will take place over a total of two days per week to allow for and compliment club commitments.

Who is it for?

The Caravella HPP program has been designed for talented and highly dedicated players aged U10-U13 as of 2018. It requires a 40-week commitment as there will be individual goals set on commencement. The HPP players will also form a squad for interstate and local tournaments throughout the year so their commitment is not only to CFA but to their teammates.

The coaches

We are firm believers that quality coaching from an early age is the key to technical and individual development and the Caravella coaching team has been together for 2.5 years – we boast a fantastic mix of high-level playing and coaching experience combined with formal education.

Football program

The HPP football program will be coached by former A-League veteran, Football Federation Australia honouree and CFA founder Zenon Caravella. Not only a former professional with over 300 games, with Zenon having just completed his AFC B-Licence, his formal education also makes him qualified to be a technical director or NPL first team coach. But as we all know, Zenon’s passion is with junior development.

Strength and conditioning program

Crios O’Hare – widely regarded as FNQ’s leading high-performance coach – is not only our resident strength and conditioning expert and CFA football coach, he’s a professional footballer in his own right. Having starred in the Queensland NPL over several years, Crios has the perfect insight on what tools are required to improve as a player specific to the game of football.

Zenon and Crios will work together on each player’s individual goals and development and will be in constant communication throughout the program.

How it will work

There will be four high-performance squads with a maximum of 12 players per group.

  • U’10 will commit to 1 x football session and 1 x strength and conditioning session per week – both on the same day.
  • U’11 – U’13 will commit to 2 x football sessions and 1 x strength and conditioning session – a 2-day commitment per week.

There will be no allowance for HPP players to elect how many sessions per week they would like to complete – this is a structured program and all players must attend all sessions.

Individual Player Profiling

All players in our HPP programs will be individually monitored and assessed by both coaches with areas to work on tailored especially for the player. We will have Cairns Total Physio and a nutritionist visit our players twice-yearly to answer any questions and guide our players through the program.

What will it cost?

  • U’10 – $350 per 10-week term:  10 x football sessions, 10 x strength and conditioning sessions.
  • U’11-U’13 – $490 per 10-week term:  20 x football sessions, 10 x strength and conditioning sessions.
  • HPP shirt + Next Level shirt additional (TBA)
  • One interstate tournament per year (TBA)

How this will affect the current programs

At the moment we have four tiers at the academy: White, Green, Gold B and Gold A. As High-Performance is a big commitment, not only for players but parents, we will only be removing Gold B while keeping the Gold, Green and White squads open for 2018. This means if you are currently in a Gold A or B team and doing one session, this can remain without having to commit to HPP or anything more. It will only mean the players in the squad may change if they are selected for HPP.

If you are in a current Gold program and aren’t selected for HPP, you will still have access to elite training with Zenon in Gold once a week in regular academy format.

If you are in Green or White and doing once or twice a week, everything stays the same.

We understand that this program requires a huge commitment and is not for everyone. However as our players improve and football evolves, we are big believers that true development and potential can only be realised through hard work and dedication. We are excited to see the fruits of our labour – for all players and all abilities – at the end of 2018.

All programs in 2018

  • Caravella Beginners – For the newest of footballers wanting structured football training with a focus on all the basic fundamental skills. This program is formulated to not only physically best prepare our young players for their first full season of football, but give them the confidence they need to do their very best. This program is for players 5-7 and starts in Term 1, 2018.
  • Caravella White – Our Player Development program – termly
  • Caravella Green – Our Player Pathway program – termly
  • Caravella Gold – Our Advanced Player development program – termly
  • Caravella HPP – Our High Performance 40-week program

Note: HPP program aside, all players regardless of ability are graded for a spot in one of our programs at CFA prior to commencement in 2018.

We will be holding trials for the HPP program over two weekends:

  • December 2nd and 3rd at 9am
  • December 8th and 9th at 9am

Zenon, Crios and the rest of the coaching team will be present for the trials. All age groups will be divided into stations.

These trials are not exclusive to current CFA players but registering for the trials is compulsory – we will not be allowing players to trial unless they have formally registered.

Things to keep in mind

While an important new program, HPP is but a small part of our Caravella community. Regardless of ability, all players are welcome at our academy and will receive the same high-level football education we are widely known for across all tiers.

The HPP program has been curated by Zenon and Crios to raise the bar of elite junior development in a regional area. We are excited to be able to offer this program to players of Far North Queensland in the hope of best preparing them for competitive football outside of FNQ.

All players selected for the 2018 High Performance Programs will be notified by email within 14 days of the last trial date.

The training schedule will be finalised in early January for a Term 1 start date of Monday, January 22nd.

Note: Registering for a trial spot does not make you obligated to attend CFA in 2018 or accept a HPP spot. However for insurance purposes we require the details and medical waiver of every player attending.

To register for a trial spot, go here.

Registrations close December 1st at 5pm.
