Our winning U13’s at the FNQ Youth Cup
We’re three quarters of the way through the inaugural Caravella High Performance Program and we have seen some incredible results from our players this year. A set and structured 40 week program, the High Performance squads of 2018 currently participate in two intense football sessions with Zenon Caravella as well as one strength and conditioning session with Criostoir O’Hare fromNext Level – High Performance Training. formulated for junior footballers.
Aside from regular training and quarterly assessments, they each participated in the Far North QLD Youth Cup as well as travelled to Sydney in July for an intense football camp that included playing against the best for their age in NSW.
With our move to world class football facility The Grounds Cairns later this year, 2019 is shaping up to be even bigger and better than ever. Trials for the 2019 program will commence in November this year with the following age groups considered:
U10, U11, U12, U13 and U14.
For the best possible chance at selection for this cutting edge program, we recommend all players with aspirations to join HPP 2019 register for regular academy training in Term 4 so they are well prepared for the trials in November. Now’s your chance to be coached and mentored by two genuine experts in their respective fields: former A-League and international footballer Zenon Caravella and the region’s most in demand strength and conditioning coach/ Crios O’Hare.

Zenon Caravella
The Caravella HPP program has been designed for talented and highly dedicated players aged U10-U14 as of 2019. It requires a 40-week commitment as there will be individual goals set on commencement. The HPP players will also form a squad for interstate and local tournaments throughout the year so their commitment is not only to CFA but to their teammates.
We are firm believers that quality coaching from an early age is the key to technical and individual development and the Caravella coaching team has been together for over 3 years – we boast a fantastic mix of high-level playing and coaching experience combined with formal education.
The HPP football program is personally coached by former A-League veteran, Football Federation Australia honouree and CFA founder Zenon Caravella. Not only a former professional with over 300 games, with Zenon having completed his AFC B-Licence and on track to complete his A-Licence by the end of 2018, the CFA Head Coach’s impressive combination of formal education and professional playing experience make him one of, if not the most, qualified junior coach in the region.
Crios O’Hare
Crios O’Hare – widely regarded as FNQ’s leading high-performance coach – is not only our resident strength and conditioning expert and CFA football coach, he’s a professional footballer in his own right. Having starred in the Queensland NPL over several years, Crios has the perfect insight on what tools are required to improve as a player specific to the game of football.
Zenon and Crios will work together on each player’s individual goals and development and will be in constant communication throughout the program.
We will hold trials for five high-performance squads with a maximum of 12/14 players per group.
There will be no allowance for HPP players to elect how many sessions per week they would like to complete – this is a structured program and all players must attend all sessions.
We will be releasing a more detailed outline in the 2019 program in November, which will slightly differ to 2018.
All players in our HPP programs will be individually monitored and assessed by both coaches with areas to work on tailored especially for the player. There will be quarterly individual player assessments – two face-to-face and two written – to ensure each player is being given current and correct feedback according to performance and attitude.
We will be holding trials for the HPP program over two weekends:
Zenon, Crios and the rest of the coaching team will be present for the trials. All age groups will be divided into stations.
These trials are not exclusive to current CFA players but registering for the trials is compulsory – we will not be allowing players to trial unless they have formally registered.
While an important program, HPP is but a small part of our Caravella community. Advanced players that do not want to commit to the full program can be part of our advanced squad which only requires a one day commitment.
Ultimately, the HPP program has been curated by Zenon and Crios to raise the bar of elite junior development in a regional area and replicate – if not improve – on similar programs offered in the city. We are excited to be able to continue to offer this program to players of Far North Queensland in the hope of best preparing them for competitive football outside of FNQ.
All players selected for the 2019 High Performance Programs will be notified by email within 14 days of the last trial date.
The training schedule will be finalised in December for a Term 1 start date of Tuesday, January 29th.
Note: Registering for a trial spot does not make you obligated to attend CFA in 2018 or accept a HPP spot. However for insurance purposes we require the details and medical waiver of every player attending.
